Definitions 

‘You’, ‘Client’ or 'Handler' – The dog’s owner or carer who is engaging the training services. 

‘Trainer’ or ‘We’ – Clever Dog Training and it's accredited trainers. 

‘Session’ – the booked time for the provision of services including 121 training and workshops. 

Training and Handling 

Clever Dog Training operates force-free training. Training operates using positive reinforcement and by using rewards. We work under the strict Code of Ethics set out by the Institute of Modern Dog Trainers.  

We do not use aversive training methods. This includes the use of choke, tightening, slip, prong, spray, shock or E-Collars and pet correctors. We do not use punishment in our training. Aversive training is not conducive to a good relationship between the dog and the handler and is detrimental to the dog's wellbeing.  

Our preference is the use of a well fitted harness and flat lead. Flexi leads (extending leads) are not permitted during sessions in order to avoid injury.  

The effectiveness of any dog training cannot be guaranteed. Each dog is an individual and their circumstances vary. Progress relies on the ongoing efforts of the client. Training must continue at home.  

Clever Dog Training will implement training which addresses the needs of the dog and handler. Problem behaviours are unlikely be changed with immediate effect.  

Payment, Refunds & Cancellations 

121 sessions and workshops must be paid for at at the time of booking. If you fail to pay for your session or workshop, we reserve the right to cancel the session or workshop without notice.  

Refunds will not be given for sessions cancelled with less than 14 days' notice.  

Training sessions may be rescheduled without additional cost with at least 7 days' notice being given.  

In the event that we have to cancel a session with you due to unforeseen circumstances, such as adverse weather, illness or emergency, we will make every effort to reschedule your session to another mutually convenient time. If this is not possible, we will refund you for the cost of that particular session. 

If your session involves the additional expense of booking a private field/venue the cost of this will be added to the session fee and is an additional fee payable by the client.  

In the event of a Covid diagnosis by the client or trainer we reserve the right to move sessions online via video call.  

Safety 

Any instances of accident or injury must be reported to the trainer at the time they occur. All dogs must be kept safe, and it is the responsibility of the owner to ensure the safety of others. You are responsible for your dog’s behaviour at all times. 

For home visits, please arrange for your dog to be in another safe room behind a door or safety gate (without access to the front door) when your trainer first arrives. We are happy to wait while you do this! 

We will advise you as to when (and how) it would be most appropriate to bring the dog into the room to be introduced to us. If you feel that this arrangement is not suitable for your dog for any reason, please get in touch and we can discuss the best option for you and your dog. 

Parking 

If we are visiting your home, please make a parking place available where possible. If there is on-street parking which requires a visitor permit, please have a visitor permit ready for our use when we arrive. If parking at your home (or other venue at which we have arranged to meet) requires payment, please could you kindly make arrangements for this. 

Children 

Children are very welcome to attend training sessions and workshops, with appropriate adult supervision. We accept no responsibility for children at training sessions and it is the responsibility of the client to ensure the children’s safety at all times. Young people under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. 

Health & Vaccination 

All dogs and puppies should be suitably protected from the potential risk of disease, as well as being appropriately treated for internal and external parasites. Clever Dog Training advises that owners should consult their veterinary professional in relation to this. 

We recommend that each dog participating in any training whatsoever has been appropriately health checked by a veterinary professional before their participation.  

There can be no guarantee against risk of disease at any venue or when in contact with any other dogs or materials, such as toys, which may have been in contact with other dogs. 

It is the handler's responsibility to ensure that their dog is appropriately protected against the risk of disease. Clever Dog Training accepts no responsibility for the potential or actual exposure of dogs to disease. If an owner chooses not to routinely vaccinate their dog or puppy, for example because they are choosing titre testing or using homeopathic nosodes, this is entirely the choice of the owner and is a decision made at their own risk.  

By agreeing to these Terms & Conditions, you are accepting full responsibility for the protection of your dog from the risk of disease. Please advise us in advance of the session if your dog has been in contact with another dog infected by a contagious disease or if they appear to be unwell (e.g. vomiting, diarrhoea, coughing, runny nose etc). Depending on the issue, it may be advisable for the session to be cancelled or re-arranged (see Refunds & Cancellations). 

If your dog has any known allergies or intolerances to certain foods or has any other special needs, it is your responsibility to bring this to the attention of the trainer prior to the start of the session.  

If you have a female dog who comes into season/heat please let us know in advance of your session. We will do our best to continue with the planned training sessions where it is safe for your dog and other dogs. We have the right to defer any training to a later date.  

Clients much ensure they clean up after their dog.  

Marketing & Privacy 

Photographs are often taken during training sessions. Such photos may be used by Clever Dog Training for the purposes of marketing. If you do not wish for photographs of you or your dog to be used or shared, please let us know. 

Any verbal or written feedback may be used for marketing purposes. Only the first name of the person will be used as identification. If you are not happy for us to use your feedback in this way, please let us know. 

Photography and videography of sessions or parts of sessions by clients or spectators is NOT permitted without the express permission of Clever Dog Training. 

We will not share any information you provide to Clever Dog Training without your express permission.  

Disclaimer 

We make every effort to ensure the safety of both clients and dogs during 121 sessions and workshops. By making a booking with us, you are accepting that participating in an activity with dogs, children and adults poses a risk of injury to yourself and/or your dog, and you agree to indemnify Clever Dog Training for all personal injury and damage to property while attending training sessions. 

We will not accept liability or responsibility for the misinterpretation of any advice given.  

We strongly recommend that you have veterinary and third-party liability in place for your dog.  

You agree to assume full responsibility for any risks, injuries or damages, known or unknown, which might occur as a result of your dog attending such sessions. You also agree to make any person who accompanies you to the session or workshop, or takes your place, aware that they are also there at their own risk. 

You understand and accept that your dog and its behaviour remain entirely your responsibility at all times, whether or not they are in the presence of the trainer. 

By booking any training, you are agreeing to these terms and conditions.
